S.S. Bhavikatti served KREC Surathkal (presently NITK) from 1963 to 2001 as a teacher and also in different capacities like head of Civil Engg. Dept., Chairman, Centre for continuing education, Chairman, Central computer centre and Dean from November 2001 to November 2005 he served SDMCET Dharwad as professor and Dean from December 2005 to September 2007 he worked in RYMEC Bellary as Principal. From 2008 till today he is Emeritus Professor at KLE Technological University (formerly BVBCET) Hubli. He has published more than 65 technical papers in national and international journals and seminars and 56 books in civil engineering.
