Prof. R.K. Bansal was born on January 1, 1943. He graduated in Mechanical Engineering in 1966 and joined Delhi College of Engineering (DCE) in 1967 as a lecturer, later becoming a professor in 1995. He earned his M.Tech degree with Honors from IIT Delhi in 1975 and completed his Ph.D. from the University of Delhi in 1981. Over his career, he guided numerous final-year projects, supervised 08 M.E. theses, and mentored one Ph.D. student. Prof. Bansal has published several research papers, including Application of F.E.M. to Potential Flow Over a Cylinder and F.E. Analysis of Ideal Fluid Flow Over an Axi-symmetric Solid Body, both of which received the Certificate of Merit from the Institution of Engineers (India). From January 1, 2000, to December 31, 2002, he served as the Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Faculty of Technology, University of Delhi. Additionally, he held key administrative roles as Dean (Undergraduate Studies) and Dean (Postgraduate Studies) at DCE. Prof. Bansal is the author of several engineering textbooks, widely used across engineering institutions in India. His contributions to education were recognized with the Distinguished Authors Award (1999) by the Federation of Educational Publishers in India. After retirement, he continued his academic journey as an Advisor and Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Automation Engineering at Northern India Engineering College, Delhi. In 2010, he received the Distinguished Author Award at the World Book Fair by the Afro-Asian Book Council (4th February 2010) and was honored with the Distinguished Faculty Award by Delhi College of Engineering (6th February 2010).
